Project DescriptionRenovations at Alondra Community Regional Park will include replacing the existing pool, bathhouse and equipment building with a 25’ x 25’ meter pool, a 6,000 sq. ft. pool house and recreation building, a 3,000 sq. ft. water play area, a 14,000 sq. ft. skateboard park, new restrooms, a picnic shelter and various other improvements, such as new tubular steel fencing. Artists Kipp Kobayashi and Marta Perlas have designed a paving pattern that will be sandblasted into the surface of the skatepark and pool deck. The pattern, to be stained blue, is made of a multitude of skateboarder silhouettes which together resemble the reflection patterns found on the surface of water. The project will also incorporate energy and water conservation efficiency devices, low impact designs, drought tolerant landscaping, and other sustainable green building features that will meet certification requirements of the United States Green Building Council’s LEED program. Construction is scheduled to be complete in late 2010. About the ArtistTogether, artist Kipp Kobayashi and architect Marta Perlas form Mythograph, Inc. have been commissioned for several public projects including works at the Serra Mesa – Kearny Mesa Branch Library, the Founder’s Garden in Ontario, California, and the 7th Street/ Metro Center Station for the Los Angeles MTA.
